Community Impact
Wisely impacting lives and our community, together.
Attorneys Rick Morefield, Andrew Speicher, and Stan Bachman came together over three shared principles: Faith, Stewardship, and Service. They each have a personal desire to honor God with their time and talents, and to use their professional careers to do more than simply earn a living and provide for their families. They desire to use their skills and abilities to serve God through serving others, helping those in need, and advocating for those who cannot fight for themselves.
Hear from Rick, Andrew, and Stan in their own words:
Beyond our professional commitments, the MSB Law team is deeply invested in giving back to help everyone in our communities thrive. Together, we have developed 2 distinct community-focused initiatives. Through our Community Service Initiative, we encourage all MSB Law attorneys and staff, as well as their friends and families, to participate in quarterly non-legal community service projects. Through our Pro Bono Initiative, we partner with specifically selected ministries and non-profits to provide free legal representation to people in their programs who are hindered or oppressed by legal obstacles. This personal dedication to serving others in need is a cornerstone of our firm, reflecting our shared desire to use all our talents and abilities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and our shared belief that we are more blessed when we give than when we receive.
Community Service Initiative
One of our core values is “Be a blessing to others, especially those who can’t repay.” That’s why we set aside one day every quarter to engage in serving others, together as a team and with our families and friends. We hope you’ll join us in our efforts to make our community a place where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Some of our recent community service projects include:
- Joy Meadows garden planting and landscaping: Joy Meadows provides families with community support, housing, and resources so children impacted by foster care can find stability, healing, and joy.
- Friends of JCDS house repairs and lawn care: Friends of JCDS, Inc. ensures that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are successful in our communities by helping remove barriers to affordable, accessible housing, and helping with basic needs for individuals who receive support from Johnson County Developmental Supports.
- Back to School Drive for Cornerstones of Care and KVS: Cornerstones of Care partners with children, young adults and families to improve safety and health through three key service areas:Youth & Family Support, Foster Care & Adoption, and Education & Trainings.
- MADD Walk for Life: The MADD Walk for Life is MADD’s signature fundraising event to help raise both awareness and funds to end drunk driving and fight drugged driving.
Pro Bono Initiative
As lawyers, we possess a unique ability to help people navigate legal problems in ways others can’t. We believe if we fail to utilize this unique ability for the benefit of the most marginalized in our community, we are missing a huge opportunity. That’s why we currently partner with the following organizations to offer pro bono services to women survivors of sex trafficking, children and families impacted by foster care, and women facing unexpected pregnancies.
- The Barnabas Group KC: The Barnabas Group provides marketplace professionals with the opportunity to use their unique giftings, talents, network and experience to help ministries realize their vision.
- The Joseph Project: The Joseph Project is a nonprofit organization that connects human trafficking survivors with pro bono legal services. It is inspired by the Biblical account of history’s earliest recorded survivor, who transitioned from exploitation to empowerment (Genesis 37-50).
- Joy Meadows: Joy Meadows provides families with community support, housing, and resources so children impacted by foster care can find stability, healing, and joy.
- Advice & Aid Pregnancy Centers: Advice & Aid provides women facing unexpected pregnancies with hope by offering options, education, long-term assistance and services to make a life-changing decision.
- Rehope: Rehope (formerly Restoration House of Greater Kansas City) is a faith-based 501(c)3 providing housing, treatment, and lifelong sustainment services for women and children victims of human trafficking.
- RPOR: RPOR (Relentless Pursuit Outreach & Recovery) is a community-centered, faith-based organization dedicated to eradicating human trafficking that strives to heal and restore survivors, bring justice to offenders, educate others on prevention and awareness, and be leaders in the community in order to end the exploitation of human beings.
- 1/99 Ministries: 1/99 seeks to engage, equip, empower & elevate survivors of sex trafficking in order that they may live successful, independent lives in their community.
